To make bags accessible in different colors and fabrics at a cheap price, we at shopolics.com have a tutorial for you.
It will hardly take 30 minutes for you to get the bags handmade with simple sewing techniques.
What you will need for this DIY Tote bags project
1. Half yard of fabric preferably Oslo fabric
2. 2 yards of cotton webbing that complements your fabric for the bag (2-inch each)
3. Thread of cotton. This again should be in sync with the fabric already chosen
4. Thread of cotton in contrast with the fabric
5. Any fabric for the handle
Now you are all set to begin the sewing of a beautiful tote bag. The things mentioned above are for one bag sewing.
How to bring everything together in getting an impeccable result:
Step 1: The fabric you have chosen should be cut into two pieces. Each piece should have 15-inch length and 12-inch breadth. This measurement completely depends on how large a bag you want. Here, we have specified the length and breadth for an idea. To go well with the cut fabric, you will need 20.5 inches of the cotton webbing.
Step 2: Cut handles from the fabric you already have as per your preference. Make sure the handles have been cut to equal sizes.
Step 3: Now the cut handles should be attached to the two pieces that we got in the first step. Do keep in mind that the handles to be sewed are fixed to the raw side of the cut fabric of the body of the bag. The handles should be fixed in a way that they are not twisted on the outside. It looks clumsy and results in inconvenience while carrying. Fold the top edge of the two pieces cut.
Step 4: The cotton thread which is a contrast to the fabric should be now used to sew the top edges in a zig-zag manner for a better highlight. In the same flow, you will stitch the handles too. While stitching, it should be kept in mind that the raw sides of the bags are out while you are stitching the edges.
Step 5: Now unfold the bag. Your absolutely gorgeous and easily made tote bag is ready for use.
The cloth that you use for the bag, the colors and the threads, handles etc. depend on your taste and preference. You can experiment at home and get the best one for you in less than an hour. How easy and convenient the sewing turned out to be. So try this and do let us know how you liked it.
